Christmas Day At My Church

This year Christmas Day falls on a Sunday.  If you’re like me and on staff at a church, you’ve known about this for a long time.  If this is the first time you’ve heard of this…Merry Christmas!

At my church, we will gather as a church family on Christmas Day at 11:00 a.m.  Sunday is the Lord’s Day.  Sunday is the day of the week when we gather as the church to worship the Lord!  I am truly excited about this year when Christmas falls on a Sunday for many reasons.

Here are a few things we will be doing on Christmas day at Shady Oaks Baptist Church.

  1. We Will Celebrate Jesus’ Birthday.
This is the day we join with millions of Christians all over the world in celebrating Jesus’ birthday.  When we gather on Christmas Day, we will celebrate joyfully the birth of Jesus Christ.
  2. We Will Sing Christmas Carols.
On Christmas Day we will worship the Lord by singing familiar, traditional Christmas Carols.  Whether you’re a member, or a guest, we will sing some of the wonderful Christmas Carols that we all know and love.
  3. We Promise Our Christmas Service Will Be Less Than One Hour.
In our planning for Christmas Day, we scheduled our service to be forty-five to fifty minutes in length from beginning to end.  We will sing, read from the Bible, take an offering, hear a brief message from God’s Word, and offer an invitation for people to respond to the Gospel.
  4. We Will Give Our Volunteers A Break.
Every Sunday throughout the year, my church requires a lot of volunteers to provide full programming for families from birth to senior adults.  This Christmas we wanted everyone to worship together, so we will not have Life Groups and other ministries that normally occur on Sunday.  We will have one worship service for everyone to attend with their family and church family at 11:00 a.m.
  5. We Will Be So Glad To See You And Your Family.
I want to encourage you to lead your family and attend worship on Christmas Day.  I know it might be asking a lot, but try to adjust your schedules to make time for this special day.  As Christians, we worship the Lord on Sundays.  That said, invite your family and friends who may be in your home for Christmas to attend worship at Shady Oaks Baptist Church with you.
  6. We Will Be Okay With Whatever You Want To Wear.
If you would like to come dressed casual, or formal, or somewhere in between, it’s okay…just come to church.  If you want to wear your Christmas pajamas, that’s okay too.  All I ask is…keep it classy!

When we did our calendaring for 2016, we decided not hold a Christmas Eve service, because the next day is Christmas Day.  We did this so families could be together at home one day, and the other at church.

Please know this…in the year 2017, Christmas Eve is on a Sunday!  Next year, we will have a Christmas Eve worship service in the morning, and return to our Candle Light Christmas Eve service in the evening.  I pray you and your family have a very merry Christmas, and a Christ-filled New Year!
