His Name Is…Prince Of Peace

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

A few years ago I read a story about George McCauslin, who served as Director of a YMCA in Pennsylvania.  It was an extremely difficult situation because the YMCA was losing money, losing membership, and losing staff.  McCauslin continued to work tirelessly 85 hours a week trying to solve all the problems at the YMCA.  Because of all the stress and worry, McCauslin experienced many sleepless nights.  He didn’t even take a day off to rest.  Even when he was away from his job, he was constantly worrying and stressing about all the problems at the YMCA.  He finally decided to go see a doctor who warned him he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.  It became imperative that he needed to let go and let God take control of his problems.  Easier said than done, right?

Finally, a breakthrough came one afternoon when he took a notebook and walked into a forest that was close to his home.  As he walked through the calm forest, he could feel his body starting to relax.  While sitting down under a tree, he let out a deep sigh and for the first time in months he felt calm.  He took his notebook and decided to let go of all the worries and stress of his life.  He wrote God a letter that simply said, “Dear God, today I hereby resign my position as General Manager of the universe.  Love, George.”

Let’s be honest; I think many of us need to do what George did.  We need to resign as general manager of the universe.  Are you worn out from trying to solve every problem?  Are you stressed from trying to provide for your family?  Are you worried by taking care of your parents?  Is it too much always trying to get your friends shaped up?  Are you feeling overwhelmed in general trying to fix your siblings and parents and roommates and friends and neighbors?  Are you exhausted from trying to repair all the broken people and the messed up situations all around you?  No wonder you’re tired all the time.

Let me share with you some wonderful news.  Of the four titles given to our Lord Jesus Christ, “Prince of Peace” is the greatest because it speaks to the deepest needs of the human heart.  He offers peace from God (Romans 1:7) to all who are the recipients of His grace.  He brings peace with God (Romans 5:1) to those who surrender to Him in faith.
He brings the peace of God (Philippians 4:7) to those who walk with Him.

When Christ is Lord of our life, then we will have Peace in our heart.  In a world filled with hate, chaos, and uncertainty, the “Prince of Peace” has come.  Life without the “Prince of Peace” is a life of turmoil.  Those who place their trust in Christ find a peace that passes all understanding.

Is your heart troubled?  Turn to the “Wonderful Counselor.”  Are you feeling weak?  Turn to the “Mighty God.”  Do you feel lost and alone?  Turn to the “Everlasting Father.”  Are you constantly upset and angry?  Turn to the “Prince of Peace.”  Whatever your need is today, turn to Jesus Christ!

If you don’t know Jesus Christ today, I invite you to know Him today.
Here is the Gospel: Jesus, the Son of God, was born on this earth about 2000 years ago.  He lived a perfect, sinless life, and died on a cross to pay for our sins so we could have a relationship with God.  We all need His peace, because we are sinners who need His forgiveness.  The Bible tells us Jesus gave His own sinless, guiltless life on our behalf.  He died for our sins to save us from God’s righteous wrath.  We must be willing to turn from our sins and turn to Him by faith, realizing that we can never earn His favor.  If you would like to ask Jesus Christ to be your Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace, please pray this prayer.

Lord, I admit that I am a sinner, and I need You as my Savior.  I want to commit my life to You.  I believe You are the perfect, sinless Son of God.  I believe You died on the cross for my sins.  Jesus, forgive me for my sins and give me Your power to turn away from my old life and turn to You for New Life!  In Jesus’ Name – Amen!
