joy-001

I love Christmas!  Every year when November rolls around, I start getting in the Christmas spirit.  For me, Christmas really is The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!  I love the sights, the sounds, the times with family and friends, and I love the story of Christmas!  My favorite Christmas carols is Joy To The World!  The Christmas season brings me so much JOY!  Sadly, in a couple of weeks it will all be over.  Like many of you, we’ll take down all the Christmas sights, the Christmas sounds will silence, and we’ll be back to business as usual.  The very next week we begin a brand New Year!  WOW…It will be 2017!
So, here’s what I want to know: How can we keep the joy of Christmas alive in 2017?
How can we Repeat The Sounding Joy…All Year Long?   Continue reading

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

A few years ago I read a story about George McCauslin, who served as Director of a YMCA in Pennsylvania.  It was an extremely difficult situation because the YMCA was losing money, losing membership, and losing staff.  McCauslin continued to work tirelessly 85 hours a week trying to solve all the problems at the YMCA.  Because of all the stress and worry, McCauslin experienced many sleepless nights.  He didn’t even take a day off to rest.  Even when he was away from his job, he was constantly worrying and stressing about all the problems at the YMCA.  He finally decided to go see a doctor who warned him he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.  It became imperative that he needed to let go and let God take control of his problems.  Easier said than done, right? Today, as we continue with my series of posts about the Names of Christmas, let’s go to the third name in this series…”EVERLASTING FATHER.”

“Everlasting Father.”  Doesn’t that sound amazing?  A father who will last forever.  Several years ago I lost my earthly father, and that was one of the hardest days of my life.  I loved my dad, and I miss him every day, especially  around Christmas.  In the midst of my grieving the loss of my earthly father, I was moved by the Holy Spirit to cling to my Heavenly “Everlasting Father” for comfort.   Continue reading

Yesterday I wrote a blog post about His Name Is Wonderful Counselor.  That post, along with this one, and the ones to come, are from a sermon series I preached a few years back called, “The Names of Christmas.”
Today, let’s look at His Name Is…MIGHTY GOD.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

Christmas is that time of year when Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  Sadly, many people celebrate Christmas, and have no idea why they celebrate Christmas or who Christmas is really all about!  Many people think Christmas is all about The Big Guy in the Red Suit who has many names: Santa Claus, Papai Noel, Sinter Klaas, Father Christmas, Pere Noel, Babbo Natele.  There’s a lot of names that we associate with Christmas.  All those names are good and fun.  However, there are other names of Christmas that surround the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas Traditions

If you know me at all, you know that I love Christmas!  I love everything about Christmas!  I love the sights, the sounds, the food, and all of the festive gatherings.  As a child, one of my favorite Christmas traditions was decorating our family Christmas tree, and our fireplace mantle with garland and lights.  After everything was all decorated, Continue reading
